Read the excerpt from "An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.”At first sight these instances might be mistake

n for unexpected acts of generosity from Conrad. In reality they constitute some of his best assaults. In the case of the cannibals the incomprehensible grunts that had thus far served them for speech suddenly proved inadequate for Conrad's purpose of letting the European glimpse the unspeakable craving in their hearts. Weighing the necessity for consistency in the portrayal of the dumb brutes against the sensational advantages of securing their conviction by clear, unambiguous evidence issuing out of their own mouths, Conrad chose the latter. As for the announcement of Mr. Kurtz's death by the "insolent black head in the doorway," what better or more appropriate finis could be written to the horror story of that wayward child of civilization who willfully had given his soul to the powers of darkness and "taken a high seat amongst the devils of the land" than the proclamation of his physical death by the forces he had joined? How does Achebe develop his CLAIM in this excerpt? 2 points He constructs a counterclaim to refute the challenge. He lists reasons that support his claim. He cites evidence from the text to support his claim. He states the claim of his argument at the end.

Passage one what affect does Eggert achieve by numbering each point of his argument
Hunter-Best [27]

Answer: He conveys that many different arguments can be presented against socialism.

Explanation: The rest don’t make sense, there is no process nor is it in order of importance. The next option says each point is a logical result of the previous one but each of the arguments don’t seem to connect to the previous.

Which sentence in this excerpt from Mark Twain's "The £1,000,000 Bank-Note" is an example of hyperbole? I would have picked up t
dmitriy555 [2]

Answer:

“ I would have picked up the pear now and eaten it before all the world“

Explanation:

A hyperbole often means the use of exaggeration, examples of this can often be overlooked. Here, it is said that the narrator wiohld eat a pear before “all the world”, which is definitely an exaggeration because that is technically not possible. It is subtle, but a good example

which type of clouds cannot stand on its own but depends on authors sentence express a complete thought
otez555 [7]
The answer is, "Subordinate clause."

A subordinate clause is also known as a dependent clause, which is the opposite of an independent clause. An independent clause is a part of a sentence that can stand on its own and can still technically be a valid sentence. A dependent clause depends on the main clause to form a complete sentence.
