The planets move around the sun in elliptical orbits with the sun at one focus. The point in the orbit at which the planet is cl

osest to the sun is called perihelion, and the point at which it is farthest is called aphelion. These points are the vertices of the orbit. A planet's distance from the sun is 741,000,000 km at perihelion and 817,000,000 km at aphelion. Find an equation for the planet's orbit. (Place the origin at the center of the orbit with the sun on the x-axis. Use the following as necessary: x, y.)

Consider the attached ellipse. Let the sun be at the right focus. Then perihelion is at right vertex on the x-axis and aphelion is at the left vertex on the x-axis.

The distances:

  • from perihelion to the sun in terms of ellipse is a-c;
  • from aphelion to the sun in terms of ellipse is a+c.

Then

\left\{\begin{array}{l}a-c=741,000,000\\a+c=817,000,000\end{array}\right.

Add these two equations:

2a=1,558,000,000 \\ \\a=779,000,000

and subtract first equation from the second:

2c=76,000,000 \\ \\c=38,000,000.

Note that b=\sqrt{a^2-c^2}, thus

b=\sqrt{779,000,000^2-38,000,000^2}=\sqrt{605,397,000,000,000,000}.

The equation for the planet's orbit is

\dfrac{x^2}{a^2}+\dfrac{y^2}{b^2}=1\Rightarrow \dfrac{x^2}{606,841,000,000,000,000}+\dfrac{y^2}{605,397,000,000,000,000}=1.

Write the equation of the line, in point-slope form. Identify (x1, y1) as the point (1, 2). Use the box provided or the upload o
AlexFokin [52]
We are given with the coordinates of one of the points of a line which is
(1,2)
In order to generate an equation of a line, we need at least one other point or the slope of the line. If we are given with the slope of line, we can use the point slope form which is
y - y1 = m (x - x1)
substituting
y - 2 = m(x - 1)

The manufacturer of a certain brand of aluminum foil claims that the amount of foil on each roll follows a Normal distribution w
lilavasa [31]

Answer:

Given that the manufacturers claim is true, the probability that the sample mean area is 249.6 ft.² or less is 0.42074

Step-by-step explanation:

The manufacturer claims that mean amount of foil on each roll, μ = 250 ft²

The standard deviation of the measured amount of foil per roll, σ = 2 ft.²

The number of rolls tested by the restaurant, n = 10 rolls

The mean measured by the restaurant, \overline x = 249.6

Taking the sample means as individual score, we have;

The z-score, of the sample mean is given as follows;

z=\dfrac{\overline x -\mu }{\sigma }

At \overline x = 249.6, we have;

z = (249.6 - 250)/2 = -0.2

Therefore, the probability for a mean less than or equal to 249.6, we have;

The probability, P = P(z < -0.2) = 0.42074

The probability that the sample mean area is 249.6 ft.² or less given that the manufacturers claim is true, P = 0.42074.
