An architect makes a model of a new house. The model shows a tile patio in the backyard. In the model, each tile has a length 1/

2in and 1/6in. The actual tiles have length 2/3ft and 2/9ft. What is the ratio of the length of a tile in the model to the length of actual tile? What is the ratio of the area of tile in the model to the area of an actual tile?

Answer:

Ratio of the lengths = 1 : 16 and 1 : 15.71

Ratio of the Area = 1 : 251.29

Step-by-step explanation:

Model = 1/2in and 1/6in.

Actual = 2/3ft and 2/9ft.

1 ft = 12 inches

2/3 ft = 8 inches

2/9 ft = 2.67 inches

Model = 0.5 inches and 0.17 inches

Actual = 8 inches and 2.67 inches

Ratio

0.5 : 8 and 0.17 : 2.67

= 0.5 / 8 and 0.17 / 2.67

= 1 / 16 and 1 / 15.71

= 1 : 16 and 1 : 15.71

Area of the tile in the model = length × width

= (0.5 × 0.17) inches

= 0.085 inches

Area of the actual tile = length × width

= (8 × 2.67) inches

= 21.36 inches

Ratio of the area

0.085 : 21.36

= 0.085 / 21.36

= 1 : 251.29

In the student council elections, five students are running for president, two are running for vice president, two are running f
ki77a [65]

Using the Fundamental Counting Theorem, it is found that 60 different possible student council teams could be elected from these students.

What is the Fundamental Counting Theorem?

It is a theorem that states that if there are n things, each with n_1, n_2, \cdots, n_n ways to be done, each thing independent of the other, the number of ways they can be done is:

N = n_1 \times n_2 \times \cdots \times n_n

Considering the number of options for president, vice president, treasurer and secretary the parameters are:

n1 = 5, n2 = 2, n3 = 2, n4 = 3.

Hence the number of different teams is:

N = 5 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 60.

If 10 people shake hands with each other, how many total handshakes will there be?
Dmitriy789 [7]
Hello, you are solving formulas in this case, heres a good way of doing these problems: :)

We know that that 10 people shake hands, so each person shakes 9 hands. The first person shakes 9 hands, the second person shakes 8 hands, the third person shakes 7 hands, and so on. That would give you the answer, however in the case of bigger numbers, this technique is not the best, in fact the best is by doing the following.

Each handshake consists of two people shaking hands. How many ways can you choose those two people if there are 10 people in the group? You can choose any one of 10 people for the first person involved in the handshake; then for each of those 10 choices, you have 9 choices for the second person. So you have 10*9 = 90 ways of choosing the two people for the handshake. But wait a minute. Person A shaking hands with person B is the same as person B shaking hands with person A; this means that in counting the 90 handshakes you have actually counted each one twice, so the actual number of handshakes is half of 90, or 45.

I hope i helped, and your final answer is 45

Thank you,
Darian

A man travels from town X to town Y at an average rate of 60 mph and returns at an average rate of 50 mph. He takes a 1/2 hour l
yawa3891 [41]
Distance = d miles ; rate = 60 mph ; time = d/60 hrs

distance = d miles ; rate = 50 mph ; time = d/50 hrs
----------------------
Round-trip DATA:
distance = 2d miles ; rate = 55 mph ; time = (2d)/55 hrs
-----------------------------------------------------------
Equation:

Roundtrip time - other time = -1/2 hr
(2d)/55 - [(d/60)+(d/50)] = -1/2
(2d)/55 - [(110d)/(50*60)] = -1/2
---
600(2d) - 11[110d] = -16500
1200d - 1210d = -16500
-10d = -16500
distance = 1650 miles

Hope this helped :)

Jake is making bracelets to give to his sisters. He uses 4 rainbow charms and 8 white star charms for his younger sister's brace
kolbaska11 [484]

Answer: Yes.

Step-by-step explanation: 4:8 simplifies to 1:2, since he used half as many rainbow charms as he did white stars. 5:10 also simplifies to 1:2. If they both have half as many rainbow charms as white, then both of his sister’s bracelets keep the same ratio.
