Ashoka became an emperor in 268 BC. After years of violence he decided to change his ways and turned to Buddhism.

He wanted to spread Buddhism to others so in his effort to do so :

1: he built Buddhist schools and statues in his kingdom  

2: he sent Buddhist missionaries to other kingdoms
