Pikas are small mammals that live at high elevation in the talus slopes of mountains. Most populations located on mountain tops

in Colorado and Montana in North America are isolated from one another because pikas don't occupy the low-elevation habitats that separate the mountain tops and don't venture far from the talus slopes. Thus, there is little gene flow between populations. Furthermore, each population is small in size and was founded by a small number of pikas. A group of population geneticists propose to study the amount of genetic variation in a series of pika populations and to compare the allele frequencies in different populations. On the basis of the biology and distribution of pikas, predict what the population geneticists will find concerning the within- and between-population genetic variation.

Answer:

It is expected to observe a low genetic variation within populations and high genetic variation between populations.

Explanation:

The pika's populations are geographically isolated among them, it drastically will increase the genetic variation among populations, especially due to the random process of genetic drift (and also to mutations). On the other hand, this geographical isolation also contributes to decreasing the genetic variation within populations due to the endogamy among their members. The combination of both genetic features (i.e., a low genetic variation within populations and high genetic variation between populations) are expected to produce high genetic diversity effects and a low population structure.

Opossums are solitary animals that usually meet in nature only to mate. What is their probable distribution pattern?
Goryan [66]

Random distribution is the probable distribution pattern of opossums.

Explanation:

The opossums are the member of low density population. They are sparsely distributed because of the low number. There are troubles for them to find a mate.

Their habitat makes them solitary as they have flexible dietary habits. they are terrestrial animals living in burrows and are nocturnal.

They have random distribution pattern. The opossums are distributed in the population as random. The mates in opossums do not have choices of mates and the environment conditions in which they live are stagnant.(having no social life). Random interaction is seen in species which do not have any social bonding between the species of the animals or plants.

Which fungus does contain mycelium?
Sergeu [11.5K]

Answer:

Mycelium is part of the fungi kingdom and is the network of threads, called hyphae, from which mushrooms grow. Not all mycelia fruit mushrooms, depending on the environmental conditions, but all mushrooms come from mycelia.
