My two possible explanations would be suicide or murder. I believe murder being the most like cause for his death because he seemed like he was looking forward to a new life: “Julian Boyd found, among the collection of papers published by the Connecticut and New York historical societies, that Deane had been writing letters of his own” (23).In the letters he was writing he wrote about new plans and what he wanted to construct once he arrived in America. He might have suicide because he was just so tired and depressed how he hit rock bottom
