The information that should be labelled on food label by FDA are- statement of identity, the net weight of the product, the address of the manufacturer, nutritional facts and list of ingredients.

The food importing business in U.S.A made food labeling mandatory by Food and Drug Administration. To make the information gathering system of product hassle free FDA made this system mandatory.

The five elements are used in food labeling-

i) statement of identity,

ii) the net weight of product,

iii) the address of manufacturer

iv) nutritional facts and

v) ingredients list.

Though there are some exceptions in single –ingredient foods.
