(a) answer : a,d,e

(b) answer : b)22L=5.8gal

(c) answer : b)25ft/min

1.  Convert meters per second to kilometers per hour,

1 kilometer = 1000 meters

1 meter = \frac{1}{1000}

1 hour = 60 minutes. it means \frac{60 minutes}{1 hour}

1 minute = 60 seconds. it means \frac{60 seconds}{1 minute}

so \frac{1}{1000} , \frac{60 minutes}{1 hour} and \frac{60 seconds}{1 minute}  are the conversion factors  used.

(2): Convert 22 Liters to gallons

1gal=3.8L

1 litre = \frac{1}{3.8} gallons

22 litre =  22* \frac{1}{3.8} gallons= 5.8 gallons

(3)Convert 5 inches per second to feet per minute.

We know 1 feet = 12 inches  and 1 minute = 60 seconds

1 inches per second = \frac{1}{12} * \frac{60}{1}= 5 feet per minute

5 inches per second  = 5 * 5 = 25 feet per minute

the length of a rectangle is 1 cm more than twice it's width. of area of the rectangle is 21 cm^2 then what are the dimensions?
larisa86 [58]
You are given a rectangle and are told that the length is 1 cm more than twice the width of the rectangle.  The area of the rect. is also given, and is 21 cm^2.

Find the length and width.  To do this, represent the length by y and the width by x.  Then "1 cm more than twice the width" comes out to y=2x+1 (cm).

Since the area of a rect. is equal to the product of its length and width,

x(2x+1)=21 cm^2.  Multiply out x(2x+1).  show your work.  Next, subtract 21 from both sides.  Write your algebraic expression on the left side as a quadratic equation in standard form.

Solve this quadratic equation for x.  Recall that x (in cm) will represent the width of the rect., and y=2x+1 (in cm) will repr. the length.

Perform the indicated operation. (y4 - 1) ÷ (y + 1)
olya-2409 [2.1K]

Factorize the numerator as a difference of squares:

y^4-1=(y^2-1)(y^2+1)=(y-1)(y+1)(y^2+1)

Then if y\neq-1, the y+1 factors will cancel:

\dfrac{y^4-1}{y+1}=(y-1)(y^2+1)=y^3-y^2+y-1

so the answer is B.
