Africa has been hit hardest by the AIDS epidemic. This is probably due to the fact that education regarding safe contact and many contraceptive devices we have here in the US are not available in Africa. Also forced sex is very common in Africa and there is not much anybody can do about it. 
The US and many other countries try to help the countries in Africa by giving money to AIDS research. 
Also many companies have taken it upon themselves to sponsor AIDS organizations. Apple has started to support an organization called Product Red. This org supports AIDS research and uses Apple as a platform to spread their message. Apple has a month where part of their income from the app store goes to Product Red. Also they have released a new phone that is red and part of the revenue they make from that phone goes to
