The case United States v. Fields was a case that went to the US Supreme Court because Abel Fields claimed that he won an award of Purpleheart, but he never served the military and never received any military award. Fields were found guilty in the first trial and he appealed. The court of appeals overturned his conviction and decided he was not guilty. The government appealed the decision and the US Supreme Court heard the case.
