It is estimated that it could take up to 1 hour for your liver to get rid of the alcohol in one standard drink.

Further explanation

The liver can process 20 ounces of alcohol within one hour. A quite small right? How it works actually. With this, the sequence of the drink goes into your body.

 1. The alcohol comes first at the stomach. Within the stomach, 20% of alcohol is absorbed and streamed through your blood.
 2. Around 80% of the alcohol will be absorbed by small intestines.
 3. The rest of the alcohol that can not be processed by both stomach and small intestines will be exhausted on sweat and urine.
 4. The drink that reaches the bloodstream then will end up in the liver. The liver will produce the enzyme that will break the alcohol into small molecules.

However not every human has the same capability in processing alcohol, several factors affect it, such as

 • Age - Older people process alcohol slower than younger. It takes a long time for older to process and breakdown the alcohol in the liver. It can affect alcohol to stay much longer in the body.
 • Gender - Female tends to process liquor slower than a man. It is because the female body has more amount of fat.
 • The race - Asian people lack an enzyme that able to processed alcohol on their liver. It made them more sensitive toward alcohol effects.
 • The body masses - A more significant mass of the human body the lesser affected of a person on alcohol.
 • The Habit - The second time a person processed the alcohol, the slower body flushes them. However, a person who used to drink will be less affected by the impact of alcohol.
