I believe the correct answer is B. The narrator does not trust what Agnes tells her.

This is a gothic element because there's obviously a great mystery in the house, that is being hidden from the newcomer. Furthermore, her predecessor has died, and the reason is unclear. In Wharton's time and before, servants, maids, and other members of the lower social classes were to come to the rich mansions and do their duty without inquiring or showing any kind of inquisitiveness, even when the issue concerns them very much. Agnes, as a loyal servant, partakes in this secrecy, and won't admit to the speaker that something strange is happening.

Read the passage from Animal Farm.
gavmur [86]

Answer: c:the protesting hens being intentionally starved

Explanation:

George Orwell's Animal Farm (1945) is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. In the novel, a group of farm animals rebels against their farmer and takes over the farm.

In this particular excerpt, the hens refuse to cooperate and give their eggs to the pigs. This is why Napoleon (a pig that becomes a leader of the farm after the Rebellion and that represents Joseph Stalin) decides to starve the hens in order for them to give in. Many hens are starved to death, and the rest of them gives up. This is an allegory for the Great Purge (1936-1938), Stalin's campaign in which he murdered "anti-Soviet" people and sent them to labor camps (Gulags).

50 points
Choose the correct subject and verb
notsponge [240]

The answer is are. We're includes you, and you weren't eating the breakfast, so that cancels out. Is is used for 1 thing/person, so that can't be true, since it could be the cats, then it would be more than one. It's not was, since if it was past tense, then it would be were, not was. So that only leaves are.
