Contrast the way boys and girls are treated in Pakistan, beginning at birth. Malala’s father places her name on the family tree.

It is the first female name on the family tree in 300 years. Explain the symbolism of this bold act by her father. Malala’s father tells her that he will protect her freedom. (p. 24) Why does he blame himself when the Taliban attacks Malala? How does her mother soothe his thoughts?

What is the area of this figure?
KatRina [158]
Hi!

I have attached 2 images that should help you understand :)

First, look at the edits I made to the image you posted. I separated the shape into smaller shapes so that we can find the area of each individual one.

Let's start with the rectangle.

To find the area of a rectangle, multiply the width times the height.
10 · 4 = 40

Rectangle = 40cm

Next up, the red triangles.

I have included another image showing the triangles combined into rectangles. So we can find the area of the triangles just like we would rectangles!

(let me know if you don't understand how I found the width + height of the triangles)

5 · 10 = 50

Red triangles = 50cm

And finally, the green triangles.

8 · 7 = 56

Green triangles = 56cm

Add it all together and you get...

40 + 50 + 56 = 146

The answer to the question is 146cm.

Next time you are having trouble with something like this, picture the triangles as rectangles! :)

Sam has twice as many books as Jim. If Sam gives 12 books to Jim, they will have the same number of books. How many books do the
Neko [114]

Alright, lets get started.

Suppose number of books Jim have = x

Sam has twice as many books as Jim. So,

Number of books Sam have = 2x

If Sam gives 12 books to Jim, they will have the same number of books.

When Sam gives 12 books, his remaining books will be = 2x - 12

When Jim gets 12 books from Sam, his books will be = x + 12

And as per given question, they both now have equal books, so

2x - 12 = x + 12

Adding 12 in both sides

2x - 12 + 12 = x + 12 + 12

2x = x + 24

Subtracting x from both sides

2x - x = x + 24 - x

x = 24

It means Jim has number of books = 24

So, Sam has numberof books = 24 * 2 = 48

So, they have number of books together = 24 + 48 = 72 : Answer

Hope it will help :)

Lynna [10]

Answer:

Addition Property of Equality

Step-by-step explanation:

System of Equations

When two equations are given and two variables are unknown in both equations, then we can solve the system in several ways.

One method consists in adding both equations term by term and eliminate one of the variables. That property is called the addition of equalities. Let's consider the equations given in the problem:

5x+4y=-2\\2x-4y=6

If we add both equations, we have

5x+4y+2x-4y=-2+6

Simplifying

7x=4

By adding both equations we managed to eliminate the variable y and could easily find the value of x

x=4/7

A teacher has a bag of candy. If she gives every student in her class 4 pieces of candy, she is left with 48 pieces of candy. Ho
yawa3891 [41]
Well you can't actually find a number, but you can make an equation.
lets call the bag of candy x, and the number of students in the teachers class S.

she gives every student in her class 4 pieces, so to find that amount, we have to multiply the number of students in her class by 4, the pieces of candy. 4S

afterwards she has 48 pieces, which is the endpoint, x is the starting point because that's the amount of candy the teacher started with.

so your equation is x-4S=48, but the thing is, the question is looking for the amount of students she gave candy to, so we have to isolate S, or in easier words; put S on one side, and the numbers on the other.

so the equation is S=1/4x-12
