The American population as a whole was fighting for their independence from Great Britain, since they were power-hungry and super controlling. To see them turn around and do the same thing to slaves, who worked the work that no one else wanted to do, and then be told they weren't allowed to have a say in how their country was run is super hypocritical. To be told they couldn't have their Independence when a whole war was waging about Independence was probably a very difficult thing.
