Rock avalanche is a mass movement event that is considered a slide. The correct answer is B.

Rock avalanche is a large landslide from rock slopes. It travels farther than smaller events. Rock avalanche rarely occur but they are very catastrophic events that can result into huge fatalities.

Further Explanation

Rock avalanche is very dangerous being the most deadly of all landslides events. It is a deep seated rock that is made up of rapid break up of failed rock mass with high velocities and long run-outs.

Rock avalanches became known in 19th century in Switzerland. It was first recognized in Switzerland when the Elm and Goldau events killed several people that are even far away from the origin of the slide.

The Elm and Goldau events in Switzerland revealed Rock avalanche possesses some peculiarities. Both events entail volumes of cubic meters that engaged large amount of energy and the distance covered in both events is very long.

After these catastrophic events, all rockslides that relates to these characteristics are classified as large rockslides, rock avalanche or “sturzstorms”.

Rock avalanche always result in high number of fatalities in developing countries. However, landslide is triggered by heavy earthquake, heavy rainfall and many other natural causes.

In a study of genetic variation of the Graceland gene, a researcher finds that there are two alleles in a population. In a large
Licemer1 [7]

Answer:

Option 1, No. The highest frequency of heterozygotes under Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium is 0.5

Explanation:

As per Hardy Weinberg’s equilibrium principle, the maximum frequency of heterozytotic individuals occur only when half of the population is dominant and recessive homozygous.

In other way when the sum of frequency of dominant and recessive species is equal to 0.5, only then the frequency of heterozygotes is maximum which in any case would not be higher than 0.5.

Hence, option 1 is correct

How is enthalpy used to predict whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic?
Radda [10]

Answer:

329.48 KJ/mol heat is released by the combustion of 2 molof methane

Explanation:

The value of enthalpy determines whether the reaction is exothermic or endothermic. If the enthalpy change is positive, then the reaction is endothermic (heat or energy released) and if the enthalpy change is negative then the reaction is exothermic (heat or energy absorbed).

2CH_4(g)+4O_2(g) => 2CO_2(g)+4H_2O(g)

\Delta H \ reaction=[ 2(\Delta HfCO_2)+ 4(\Delta HfH_2O)]-[2(\Delta HfCH_4)+4(\Delta HfO_2)]

                            =2 ( -(393.5 KJ)/mol)-[2( -74.6 KJ/mol)+4(-241.82 KJ/mol)]

                            = -787 KJ/mol-[ -149.2 KJ/mol-967.28 KJ/mol]

                           = -787 KJ/mol+1116.48 KJ/mol

                                          =329.48 KJ/mol

In this question, the enthalpy of formation has positive value and hence the reaction is endothermic in which the heat is released.
