What would be the most likely effect of setting during a dark knight when the power has gone out?

yikes! i hate it when the power goes out!!

its pitch black. your scared. theirs dogs barking. your phones going to die. the only flashlight you can find suddenly goes black. what do you do? well the only logical thing to do is find the safest corner, sit down, and cry for hour or so  until your mother comes in and opens in blinds.

It would create a creepy/ominous setting. The reader/viewer would be in suspense of of what could be lurking in the darkness.
