divide 476 by 14 to get miles per gallon

476/14 = 34, the car can drive 34 miles per gallon of gas

 so the equation would be d = 34g ( distance = 34* gallons of gas)

to travel 578 miles

 replace 578 for d and calculate for g

578 =34g

g = 578/34 = 17 gallons of gas is needed

1 gallon here would mean 34 miles, so I believe the equation would just be g=34d, and you would need 17 gallons to travel 579 miles

Find the determinancof the matrix Q.
stepan [7]

Using a Laplace expansion along the first column, we have

\det Q=2\det\begin{bmatrix}2&1\\-1&6\end{bmatrix}+3\det\begin{bmatrix}3&4\\-1&6\end{bmatrix}+5\det\begin{bmatrix}3&4\\2&1\end{bmatrix}

The determinant of a 2x2 matrix is trivial,

\det\begin{bmatrix}a&b\\c&d\end{bmatrix}=ad-bc

So we have

\det Q=2\cdot13+3\cdot22+5\cdot(-5)=67
