From 1880 to 1920, almost 10 million people from other countries entered the United States. This represented a great number of people that left their native countries looking for jobs and better living conditions. White Americans started to claim that those immigrants took jobs that belonged to them and in the late 1800s formed groups aimed to stop migration, the American Protective Association, and the Immigration Restoration League
