Political speeches and persuasive writing are similar because their purpose is the same: to convince or persuade their readers or listeners about opinions regarding some issues. Both utilize logic and reason to show that one's idea is more acceptable than the other.

There are several reasons why political speeches and persuasive writing are similar. One of the reasons is the objective. Both types of writing try to put a claim forward and convince people of the validity of this statement. Therefore, both types of writing can be considered persuasive.

The second reason is the fact that political speeches and persuasive writing use some of the same rhetorical devices. For example, both types of texts use pathos, logos and ethos in order to provide support for their claims and persuade the audience of a particular position.

What is figurative language?

When figurative language is used, it means that a word or phrase that does not normally describe a subject, is used to describe that subject.

This allows us to define the subject based on the word or phrase given. In describing politics as a zoo, one can infer that politics in the nation is disorderly.
