Given that,

Marcel has $8.25 and is only playing $0.25 games. Floyd has $9.75 and is only playing $0.75 games.

Jorge wants to find the number of games after which Marcel and Floyd will have the same amount of money remaining.

The attached figure shows the equation that Jorge had :

8.25-0.25x=9.75-0.75x

Subtract 9.75 to both sides

8.25-0.25x-9.75=9.75-0.75x-9.75

-1.5-0.25x=-0.75x

Add 0.25x to the both sides,

-1.5-0.25x+0.25x=-0.75x+0.25x

-1.5=-0.5x

⇒ x = 3

Jorge is incorrect at step 2 where he taken -0.25x to the RHS such that -0.75x+0.25x, he get 0.5x instead of (-0.5x). Hence, From Step 1 to Step 2, Jorge did not add 0.25x correctly to both sides.

Consider a large shipment of 400 refrigerators, of which 40 have defective compressors. If X is the number among 15 randomly sel
Vlad [161]

Answer:

The required probability is 0.94

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

There are 400 refrigerators, of which 40 have defective compressors.

Therefore N = 400 and X = 40

The probability of defective compressors is:

\frac{40}{400}=0.10

It is given that If X is the number among 15 randomly selected refrigerators that have defective compressors,

That means n=15

Apply the probability density function.

P(X=x)=^nC_xp^x(1-p)^{n-x}

We need to find P(X ≤ 3)

P(X\leq3) =P(X=0)+P(X=1)+P(X=2)+P(X=3)\\P(X\leq3) =\frac{15!}{15!}(0.1)^0(1-0.1)^{15}+\frac{15!}{14!}(0.1)^1(1-0.1)^{14}+\frac{15!}{13!2!}(0.1)^2(1-0.1)^{13}+\frac{15!}{12!3!}(0.1)^3(1-0.1)^{12}\\

P(X\leq3) =0.944444369992\approx 0.94

Hence, the required probability is 0.94

A number is randomly selected from {80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86}.
Ivan
The probability that the number picked is less than 84 p(A) is:
number of possible events with picked number less than 84/ total number of possible events = 4/7
The complement event of A is that event A does not occur. If the picked number is not less than 84 ( this means is greater than 84 or is 84). The probability of the complement event is:1- p(A)=3/7
