Read these lines from the poem "Facing It" by Yusef Komunyakaa: A white vet's image floats close to me, then his pale eyes look

through mine. I'm a window. He's lost his right arm inside the stone. In the black mirror a woman's trying to erase names: No, she's brushing a boy's hair. Which sentence best describes one effect of the poet's use of metaphor in this excerpt?
A. It contrasts the action of making a pencil rubbing of an engraved name and erasing a name from the wall.
B. It shows the difference between a mirror that reflects images and a window that admits light.
C. It gives the speaker the quality of empathy to show that he is open to the pain of other Vietnam veterans.
D. It attributes human qualities to the wall to emphasize how it brings together people from all walks of life.

Why do writers and speakers include counter, or opposing, claims?
shutvik [7]

Writers and speakers use counter claims so that they can counter something if it shows up. If there is an opinion that someone says, that could be counted a claim as long as they use evidence. Then if you disagree, you can use a counterclaim to tell them that you have a different opinion that is backed up by an opinion.

Shkiper50 [21]

From:  "Nineteen Eighty-Four"

It is better to be a prole than a member of the outer party in Oceania, because proles have greater freedom of thought and action.
