In the United States, citizens play an imperative role in many different facets of life. For example, American citizens have the responsibility of voting for politicians at the local, state, and national level. This allows the citizens to control who is put in charge of the government.
American citizens also consist of the labor force. This labor force is then responsible for paying taxes. These taxes are then used by the local, state, and federal government in order to pay public servants and improve the quality of life for citizens.
The United States committed to an
ever-escalating weaponry race with the Soviet. The government appealed the
public to prepare to survive a nuclear bomb explosion. The government gave
instructions for building bomb shelters. The "Duck and Cover" film
was made and urged the children to protect themselves in the event of a nuclear
attack. The goal for the rehearsals was to give the Americans the illusion of
control.
They did indeed reach the Pacific, but there was no continuous water route like they'd hoped. The mission was still a triumph in terms of mapping and discovery.
