The question is incomplete, here is the complete question:

Methanol, is made by using a catalyst to react carbon monoxide with hydrogen at high temperature and pressure. Assuming that 450.0 mL of CO and 825 mL of H_2 are allowed to react, answer the following questions. (Hint: First write the balanced chemical equation for this reaction.)

Which reactant is in excess?

Answer: The excess reactant in the reaction is carbon monoxide.

Explanation:

Excess reactant is defined as the reactant which is present in large amount in a reaction. The formation of product does not depend on this reactant and some amount of it remains after the completion of the reaction.

We are given:

Mass of CO = 450.0 mL

Mass of hydrogen gas = 825 mL

The balanced chemical equation for the reaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas follows:

CO+2H_2\rightarrow CH_3OH

By Stoichiometry of the reaction:

2 mL of hydrogen gas reacts with 1 mL of carbon monoxide

So, 825 mL of hydrogen gas will react with = \frac{1}{2}\times 825=412.5mL of carbon monoxide

As, given amount of carbon monoxide is more than the required amount. So, it is considered as an excess reagent.

Hydrogen gas is considered as a limiting reagent because it limits the formation of product.

Hence, the excess reactant in the reaction is carbon monoxide.

Consider the balanced chemical equation: 2o3(g) → 3o2(g). how many moles of o2 are produced when 0.50 mol of o3(g) reacts
kiruha [24]
   2O3→3O2
The number of moles of O2 that are produced when 0.50 moles of O3(g) reacted is 0.75 moles

  calculation and explanation

2 moles of O3(ozone) react to give 3 moles of O2 (oxygen gas, therefore the reacting ratio between O3 :O2 is 2:3

if 0.50 moles of O3 reacted then,by use of reacting ratio (2:3) find the moles of O2 produced

That is 0.50 x3/2 = 0.75 moles

An oxide of trivalent metal contains 32% of oxygen. Calculate the atomic mass of the metal.
jekas [21]

The atomic mass of the metal.(M) = 51 g/mol

Further explanation

Given

32% of oxygen

Required

the atomic mass of the metal.

Solution

An oxide of trivalent metal : M₂O₃(Ar O = 16 g/mol)

The molar mass of metal oxide = 2M+16.3=2M+48

32% of oxygen, then :

32% x 2M+48 = 48

0.32(2M+48)=48

0.64M+15.36=48

0.64M=32.64

M=51
