a) 11/6 and b) 5/21.

To solve this problem we have to do fraction operations. To sum and substrac fractions with different denominators with use the following formula \frac{a}{b} +\frac{c}{d} = \frac{a.d+b.c}{b.d} for the sum and \frac{a}{b} -\frac{c}{d} = \frac{a.d-b.c}{b.d} for the difference.

a) \frac{3}{4} +\frac{5}{6} = \frac{(3)(6)+(4)(5)}{(4)(6)}=\frac{24+20}{24}=\frac{44}{24}= \frac{11}{6}

b) \frac{4}{7}-\frac{1}{3} = \frac{(4)(3) - (7)(1)}{(7)(3)}=\frac{12-7}{21}= \frac{5}{21}

Celine ate brunch at a restaurant. The bill came to $72.80. If she left a 15% tip, what was the total cost of her brunch?
DedPeter [7]

Answer:

<em>$83.69</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the following

Initial Cost of the brunch = $72.80

Percentage tip = 15%

Tip paid = 15% of $72.60

Tip paid = 0.15 * 72.60

Tip paid = $10.89

Total cost of brunch =  $72.80 + $10.89

Total cost of brunch = $83.69

<em>Hence the total cost of her brunch is $83.69</em>

Marrrta [24]

Answer:

Each hotdog costs $1.65

Each juice drink costs $1.05

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's begin by letting x represent the number of hot dogs and y the number of juice drinks.

The Baxter family bought 6 hot dogs and 4 juices for $14.10.

6x + 4y = 14.10

The Farley family bought 3 hot dogs and 4 juices for $9.15.

3x + 4y = 9.15

Now, we subtract these equations.

6x + 4y = 14.10\\- (3x + 4y = 9.15)

Since y has reversed coefficients, it gets eliminated. Now solve for x.

6x+4y-3x-4y=14.1-9.15\\3x = 4.95\\\frac{3x}{3} = \frac{4.95}{3}

\frac{4.95}{3} = 1.65

x = 1.65

NOW, we find y by substituting x with 1.65 (in either equation).

We'll use the first equation.

6x + 4y = 14.10

6(1.65) + 4y = 14.10

9.9 + 4y = 14.10\\4y = 14.1 - 9.9\\4y = 4.2

\frac{4y}{4} = \frac{4.2}{4} \\y = 1.05

x = 1.65

y = 1.05

x represents hotdogs and y represents juice drinks.

Therefore, each hotdog costs $1.65 and each juice drink costs $1.05.

<em> I hope this helps! :)</em>

May I have some help with these, please?

Minimum = 18, Q₁ = 27.5, median = 39.5, Q₃ = 43, maximum = 49.

The five-number summary is a descriptive statistic that provides information on a series of observations. It consists of the following statistics:

1. Minimum: the smallest observation

2. First quartile  Q₁: the average of the values below the median.

3. Medium  M: the average term.

4. third quartile  Q₃: the average of values above the median.

5. Maximum: The largest observation.

The data represents the numbers of runs allowed by 8 college pitchers.

{18, 49, 38, 41, 33, 44, 42, 22}

The five-number summary is:

First, we have to sort the data from least to greatest.

{18, 22, 33, 38, 41, 42, 44, 49}

From the ordered data we can see that the minimum value is 18 and the maximum is 49.

The median is the middle term of the data set. In this case of an even number of terms, the median is the average of the terms located in the middle. So, the terms located in the middle if the data are in bold:

{18, 22, 33, 38, 41, 42, 44, 49}

Median= (38 + 41)/2 = 79/2 = 39.5

To calculate the first quartile Q₁, the values below the median are {18, 22, 33, 38}. So, the median of this values is the first quartile Q₁:

{18, 22, 33, 38}

Q₁ = (22 + 33)/2 = 55/2 = 27.5

To calculate the third quartile  Q₃, the values above the median are {41, 42, 44, 49}. So, the median of this values is the third quartile Q₃:

{41, 42, 44, 49}

Q₃ = (42 + 44)/2 = 86/2 = 43
