Answer:

Declan bought 3 books and 4 magazines

Step-by-step explanation:

Let number of books bought be x

Let number of magazines bought be y

Total number of books and magazines bought = x + y = 7

∴ x + y = 7  - - - - - (1)

x = 7 - y     - - - - - (2)

we are also told that total amount spent = $33; when price per book = $5; and price per magazine = $4.5

∴ 5(x) + 4.5(y) = 33 - - - - - - - (3)

substituting equation 2 ( x = 7 - y ) into equation 3:

5(x) + 4.5(y) = 33

= 5 (7 - y) + 4.5(y) = 33

35 - 5y + 4.5y = 33

35 -0.5y = 33

35 = 33 + 0.5y

35 - 33 = 0.5y

0.5y = 2

y = 2 ÷ 0.5 = 4

∴ y = 4

solving for x, by putting the value of y into equation 2:

x = 7 - y     - - - - (2)

x = 7 - 4 = 3

∴ x = 3

Therefore, Declan bought 3 books and 4 magazines.

Solve the system by substitution <br><br> 7x-6y=16 (1)<br> y=-5<br><br> Show step by step
Nostrana [21]

Answer:

7x - 6y = 16

y = (-5)

using substitution method

7x - 6(-5) = 16

7x +30 = 16

7x = 16 - 30

7x = 14

x = 14/7

x= 2

Find the specified nth term of each geometric sequence.<br><br><br> a4 = 10, r = 2, n = 9
Degger [83]

Answer:

a_{n} = 1.25(2)^{n-1}

Step-by-step explanation:

Geometric Sequence is the sequence in which every digit is the same multiplier of its previous digit.

The formula of Geometric Sequence is: a_{n} = a_{1}(r)^{n-1}

We have given value of 4th term i.e.

a_{4} = a_{1}(2)^{4-1}

⇒ 10 = a_{1} (2)^{3}

⇒ a_{1} = \frac{10}{(2)^{3}}

⇒ a₁ = 1.25

Hence, the nth term of each sequence is: a_{n} = 1.25(2)^{n-1}
