Use the substitution method to solve the system of equations. Choose the correct ordered pair.
Vilka [71]

Answer:

(3, 1)

General Formulas and Concepts:

Pre-Algebra

  • Order of Operations: BPEMDAS
  • Equality Properties

Algebra I

  • Solving systems of equations using substitution/elimination

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Define systems

3x + y = 10

y = x - 2

Step 2: Solve for x

  1. Substitute: 3x + (x - 2) = 10
  2. Combine like terms: 4x - 2 = 10
  3. Isolate x term: 4x = 12
  4. Isolate x: x = 3

Step 3: Solve for y

  1. Define original equation: y = x - 2
  2. Substitute in x: y = 3 - 2
  3. Subtract: y = 1

And we have our answer!

Do this make sense??
Vesnalui [34]
The mistake is that they subtracted 21 instead of adding it. you would have had to added 21 to the left side to cancel it out and added 21 to the right side to get p= 55
