Grains, seeds, nuts and root vegetables are examples of COMPLEX carbohydrates and they take a LONGER amount of time to break down, allowing one to feel full longer. Complex carbohydrates refers to those carbohydrates that are made up of sugar molecules which are strung together in long, complex chains. The digestion of complex carbohydrates takes longer time than that of the simple carbohydrates.
