A vessel at rest at the origin of an xy coordinate system explodes into three pieces. Just after the explosion, one piece, of ma

ss m, moves with velocity v in the negative x direction, and a second piece, also of mass m, moves with the same velocity in the negative y direction. The third piece has mass 3m. Just after the explosion, (a) what is the magnitude of the velocity of the third piece in terms of the given variables

Answer:

Magnitude of the third piece of the vessel after collision is (v√2) m/s

Explanation:

According To Newton's 2nd law, in such a system, momentum is conserved

Momentum before explosion = Momentum after explosion

Total mass of the vessel before explosion = m + m + 3m = 5m

Velocity = (0î + 0j) m/s since it was at rest.

Momentum = 5m (0î + 0j)

Momentum of the first piece after the explosion = m(-vî)

Momentum of the 2nd piece after explosion = m(-vj)

For the momentum of the 3rd piece,

Mass = 3m, let the velocity be (Vₓî + Vᵧj) m/s

Momentum of 3rd piece after collision = 3m (Vₓî + Vᵧj)

Momentum before explosion = Momentum after explosion

5m (0î + 0j) = m(-vî) + m(-vj) + 3m (Vₓî + Vᵧj)

The term m can be factories out,

Grouping the x and y components together,

0î + 0j = (-vî + Vₓî) + (-vj + Vᵧj)

-v + Vₓ = 0, Vₓ = v

-v + Vᵧ = 0, Vᵧ = v

So, the velocity of the 3rd fragment,

(Vₓî + Vᵧj) = (vî + vj) m/s

Magnitude = √(v² + v²) = √(2v²) = v√2 m/s

4 Suggest four ways in which participating in physical activities can build healthy relationship? 5.Show in two ways the influeb
valina [46]

Answer:

  • Increases levels of well-being neurotransmitters
  • Improves fitness
  • Improves mental health
  • Reduces the risk of developing diseases

Explanation:

Performing physical activities helps to build a healthy relationship with yourself, in the sense that physical activity promotes health at all levels. Health is a set of physical, mental and social well-being, so physical activity reaches all these levels and increases the quality of life for a person as a whole.

There are several types of physical activities that can be performed and you can choose the one that best fits your preferences and routine. A walk for example can be done in any safe place and at any time and it already helps in improving physical conditioning, in receiving serotonin and endorphins, in reducing blood pressure and protecting the heart and in improving mental health.

So the ideal is for each person to set their own goals in relation to their health and seek to achieve them, either to have a better quality of life, to socialize more with people, to prevent diseases, etc.

At t = 0 the components of a radio-controlled car's velocity are vx = 0.5 m/s and vy = 1.2 m/s. Find the components of the car's
FinnZ [79.3K]

Answer:

x-component of velocity = 5.7 m/s

y-component of velocity = -1.4 m/s

Explanation:

Use first equation of motion to find components of velocity at a given time:

v = u + at

where, v is  the final velocity, u is the initial velocity, a is the acceleration and t is the time.

Given:

u_x= 0.5 m/s\\u_y=1.2 m/s\\a_x=2 m/s^2\\a_y=-1m/s^2\\t = (2.6-0)s =2.6 s

v_x=u_x+a_xt\\\Rightarrow v_x=0.5+2\times 2.6\\\Rightarrow v_x=5.7 m/s

v_y=u_y+a_yt\\\Rightarrow v_y=1.2-1\times 2.6\\\Rightarrow v_y=-1.4 m/s

A watermelon is dropped off of a 50 ft bridge, and it explodes upon impact with the ground. How fast was it traveling in mph upo
Drupady [299]

Answer: 56.72 ft/s

Explanation:

Ok, initially we only have potential energy, that is equal to:

U =m*g*h

where g is the gravitational acceleration, m the mass and h the height.

h = 50ft and g = 32.17 ft/s^2

when the watermelon is near the ground, all the potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy, and the kinetic energy can be written as:

K = (1/2)*m*v^2

where v is the velocity.

Then we have:

K = U

m*g*h = (m/2)*v^2

we solve it for v.

v = √(2g*h) = √(2*32.17*50) ft/s = 56.72 ft/s

A 0.73-m aluminum bar is held with its length parallel to the east-west direction and dropped from a bridge. Just before the bar
Tasya [4]

Answer:

A)  B = 5.4 10⁻⁵ T, B) the positive side of the bar is to the West

Explanation:

A) For this exercise we must use the expression of Faraday's law for a moving body

            fem = -  \frac{d \phi }{dt}

            fem = - \frac{d (B l y}{dt}= - B l v- d (B l y) / dt = - B lv

            B = - \frac{fem}{l \ v}

we calculate

             B = - 7.9 10⁻⁴ /(0.73 20)

             B = 5.4 10⁻⁵ T

B) to determine which side of the bar is positive, we must use the right hand rule

the thumb points in the direction of the rod movement to the south, the magnetic field points in the horizontal direction and the rod is in the east-west direction.

Therefore the force points in the direction perpendicular to the velocity and the magnetic field is in the east direction; therefore the positive side of the bar is to the West
