Indians played a fundamental role in the wars for empire.

Explanation:

The main purpose of the most powerful countries during the era of colonization was to acquire as many territories as possible in order to expand their empires and be the leading nations in the world. Indians could not escape these wars as they were less powerful and had no other option. If they decided not to cooperate they were either killed or tortured. Their primary role was to support the leading nations in number, the more warriors they had on their side the better. They also were of great value due to their knowledge of the lands, so they knew strategic points. In return, the nations would promise to grant them certain rights or protection.

Native Americans played a huge role in different wars for the empire. For one, during the French and Indian War, Native Americans allied themselves with the French, in an effort to drive the British out of North America. This is all I can say without doing any research, but I hope it helped! :)
