What do you know about the Chinese Cultural Revolution?

The Cultural Revolution was launched in China in 1966 by Communist leader Mao Zedong.

The reason for the cultural revolution was:

 • High inflation in China, led to demoralized citizens and the military.
 • Zedong believed that current Communist leaders were taking the party, and the country, in the wrong direction,
 • He considered the years after the 1950s as infiltrated by “bourgeois”.
 • Mao called on the nation’s youth to purge the “impure” elements of Chinese society and revive the revolutionary spirit.
 • The Cultural Revolution continued in various phases until Mao’s death in 1976

What similarities existed in the two countries that allowed the Nazis and the Khmer Rouge to gain power?
photoshop1234 [79]

Extreme political parties had the chance to accuse more moderate political parties or the ruling government of either not doing enough to fix the nation's problems or of causing them in the first place during the political upheaval and economic instability of the 1920s and the 1970s. Both conditions enabled these authoritarian parties, the Nazis and the Khmer Rouge, to come to power in both 1920s Germany and 1970s Cambodia.
