Help please. Find x.

Mathematics

You have to use the Geometric Mean for triangles to find x.  Our form will look like this: \frac{2}{x} = \frac{x}{6+2} which simplifies to \frac{2}{x} = \frac{x}{8}.  Cross multiply to get x^{2} =16.  Therfore, x = 4.  Usually when we take the square root of a number we will end up with both the principle (positive) root and the negative one as well.  But since the 2 things in math that will never EVER be negative are time and distance/length, we will not consider the -4.  x = 4

How many solutions can be found for the equation 5x + 3(x − 1) = 10x − 2x − 3? None
salantis [7]
Simplify:
3(x - 1) = 8x -3
Expand:
3x - 3 = 8x - 3
Cancel -3:
3x = 8x
Move all terms to one side:
3x - 8x = 0
Simplify 3x - 8 to -5x
-5x = 0
Divide both sides by -5:
x = 0

Suppose the coordinate of a is 0, ar = 5, and at =7. What are the possible coordinates of the midpoint of rt ?
77julia77 [94]

Here 'a' corresponds to 0.

Now there are two possibilities for 'r' & 't'

Case 1.

They are on the same side to the right of 'a'

In that case 'r'  corresponds to 5 & 't' corresponds to 7.

The midpoint of 'r' and 't' shall be \frac{5+7}{2} =6

Case 2.

Both are on the left of 'a'.

In that case 'r' corresponds to -5 & 't' corresponds to -7

The midpoint shall be \frac{-7-5}{2} =-6

Case 3.

'r' in on the right of 'a' and 't' is on the left of 'a'

So 'r' corresponds to 5 and 't' corresponds to -7

The midpoint shall be \frac{-7+5}{2}=-1

Case 4.

'r' is on the left of 'a' & 't' is on the right of 'a'.

'r' corresponds to -5 & 't' corresponds to 7

The midpoint shall be \frac{-5+7}{2}=1

The possible coordinates of the midpoints of rt are 6, -6, 1, -1.

velikii [3]
We can find the area of the doormat, in square meters, by multiplying 1/2 and 3/10, getting 3/20.  Each square is 1/10*1/10=1/100 square meters.

(3/20)/(1/100) will give the ratio of the size of the doormat to the size of the squares, and thus the amount of squares needed.  This is equal to 15 squares, so the doormat will be divided into 15 squares.
