They couldn't hide runaways since they weren't free people and if a runaway was caught with them they would all just get executed. It was forbidden for slaves to own weaponry and if they were caught with weapons they would also be executed. Slaves couldn't write letters because they were forbidden by law from educating themselves.

The problem was that in that time there was no agricultural improvement, they did not know how to enrich the soil or how to do the proper rotation of crops, they used the system that cultivated 2/3 of the land and let the other third to rest. This caused a series of impacts such as climate changes, deforestation, and soil erosion.

Operation overlord was the code name given to the allied invasion of France that took off on June 6 1944.  It brought together the land, air and sea forces of the allied armies in the largest invasion force in human history.
