If a topic sentence is a claim, it can appear at the end of a paragraph to have a more dramatic impact. So I’d say the place to never put a topic sentence is in the middle of a paragraph. :)

Simile”
Juliette [100K]

We can actually deduce here that the techniques this poem uses are: I and II.

It uses simile and sensory images.

What is simile?

Simile is actually known to be a figure of speech which is used to compare two things which are not the same but look alike in some way. It uses "as" and "like" in its comparison. Metaphor is also a figure of speech used to compare two things.

We see that in the poem, the speaker compared themselves to a "deer" using the word "as" - "that now we are as the deer"

Sensory images is also as "imagery". It is the creation of mental pictures in the minds of the readers with the use of words.

We see here that "as" is used in line 2 of the poem which is simile.

Also, we see that the poet goes ahead to say "who walk in single file". This creates a sensory image. The poet reveals how they walk in single file like deer.

The poem is actually revealing how the poet compares the subject to an object or to a thing.
