As a modern conservative President, Ronald Reagan believed that individuals should control their own destiny and he worked to decrease government involvement in individual's lives. As he himself expressed in his First Inaugural Address: "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem." Consequently, during his term, Reagan achieved to decrease the size of the federal government, reduce taxes, cut federal spending on domestic programs and increase military spending to improve national defense, among others.
The primary achievement of the Second continental Congress was drafting an official Declaration of Independence which officially separated the colonies from Great Britain. <span />
