This showed that the government structure was too weak and led to the Constitutional Convention. Question 28 options: Bacon's Re
Elenna [48]

The correct answer is Shays' Rebellion.

This was an armed uprising which started in Massachusetts during 1786 and 1787, leaded by the Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Shays. He gathered 4,000 people to fight against perceived economic and civil rights injustices.

In 1787, the rebels moved towards the US Armory at Springfield. The federal goverment was unable to finance troops to confront the rebels, and these had to be opposed by he Massachusetts State militia and a privately funded local militia. This situation proved the weekneasses of the Articles of Confederation and the need to reform them. It triggered the celebration of the Constitutional Convention.

On the other hand,

  • Whiskey Rebellion took place during 1791-1794, already during the presidency of Washington
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion took place much later, in 1831 and was a slaves rebellion
  • The Bacon's Rebellion was prior to the Convention, took place in 1676 in colonial Virginia
