esearchers discovered a strain of C. parvum that expresses a functional variation of the lactate dehydrogenase gene. A DNA seque

nce comparison showed that the variant differs from the normal sequence in the region that codes for the enzyme’s allosteric site. Predict the effect of FX11 treatment on C. parvum cells that express this variant of lactase dehydrogenase. Provide reasoning to support your prediction. Explain how gossypol and FX11 might be used as drugs to treat C. parvum infections in humans without negatively affecting human cells.

Answer:

In case, when an allosteric site undergoes certain modifications it will demonstrate some changes like change in affinity towards the inhibitor, however, how the changes take place is not known exactly because of less knowledge of the FX11 composition. Though it is for sure that the modification will decline the affinity and the FX11 will exhibit less efficacy in preventing the growth of C. parvum.

An inhibitor targets the allosteric site as the size and the functional groups present within the site matches with that of the inhibitor, and thus affinity is attained. However, when there is a change in structure, the affinity will also get influenced.

The gossypol and FX11 can be utilized as drugs for human beings as these substances prevent the process of lactic fermentation, and the pathway for lactic fermentation generally is less common in human cells. The parasite C. parvum is found within the digestive tract, and the process of anaerobic respiration usually does not take place in the organs present in the digestive tract. However, in specific cases, only the muscle tissue can go through anaerobic respiration like in the case of performing physical activity. It is also to be noted that the drug can even invade other tissues via blood, therefore, at the time of consuming drugs, there is a need to instruct the patients to prevent any kind of physical activity.

The most important function of nitrites in processed food is to a prevent browning. b inhibit germination of Clostridium botulin
tangare [24]

Answer:

B. inhibit the germination of Clostridium botulinum endospores.

Explanation:

Nitrite is used in meat curing, which is produced commercially as sodium nitriteand it is has been responsible for the preservation and characteristic color/ flavor of the cured meats. Cured meat products contain curing salts, usually salt (sodium chloride) and either nitrites or nitrates. The function of nitrite in processed meat is : (1) to stabilize the color of the lean tissues. Sodium nitrite, is most commonly used for curing (although in some products such as fermented ones, sodium nitrate is used too, because of the long aging period); pocessed meats like as bacon, ham, sausages etc.

These compounds help to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. add a salty flavor. Clostridium botulinum produces heat-resistant endospores that are commonly that are able to survive under adverse conditions. Clostridium botulinum is commonly associated with bulging canned food; bulging, misshapen cans are due to an internal increase in pressure caused by gas produced by this bacteria.

Mama L [17]

The increase in the flow of solid particles into the water will upset the delicate balance in the ecosystem.

<h3>What is storm water?</h3>

The term storm water is used to describe the water that drains out after a rainfall. It usually contains many particle which could upset a river ecosystem.

If there is an to over 30% of impervious surfaces, more solid particles will flow into water and could destroy the small invertebrates in water thereby upsetting the balance in the ecosystem as small fishes may no longer fond food to eat.

Why does an increase in total resources or number of added resources commonly lead to declines in species diversity
Ksju [112]

It is so because there is an increase in the number of superior competitors which eventually exclude the lesser competitors. Therefore there is a loss in species diversity.

<h3>What is species diversity?</h3>
  • It is defined as the number of different species present in an ecosystem and relative abundance of each of those species.
  • Diversity is greatest when all the species present are equally abundant in the area.
  • Due to more resources, one species becomes dominant and excludes others.
  • Diversity is inversely proportional to dominance.
  • Species diversity is usually highest at intermediate values of resources.
