One form of the relation of inverse variation is y = k/x.

first step:  Find the value of k:    Taking the values x=5 and y = 4, 4=k/5, or k=20.  Then,   y = 20/x.

Next:  Let y = 7 and find the corresp. value of x:  7=20/x, or 7x=20, or

To the risk of sounding redundant.

\bf (5,4)\textit{ we also know that }
\begin{cases}
x=5\\
y=4
\end{cases}\implies 4=\cfrac{k}{5}\implies 20=k
\\\\\\
therefore\qquad \boxed{y=\cfrac{20}{x}}
\\\\\\
(x,7)\textit{ when y = 7, what is \underline{x}?}\qquad 7=\cfrac{20}{x}\implies x=\cfrac{20}{7}\implies x=2\frac{6}{7}

The diameter of a dome is 28 inches. What is the volume? Leave in terms of pi.
MArishka [77]
To find the volume of a dome, you would have to find the volume of the sphere, theoretically, and then divide it by two. To calculate the volume, we would use the formula 4/3 \pi r^{3}. The radius (r) in this case is half of the diameter which is 14. 4 x 3.14 (pi) = 12.56. 12.56 x 14 x 14 x 14 (2744) = 34464.64. If we divide this number by 3, we get 11488.2133. If we divide this by 2 (to get the dome), we get 5744.10656. Which would be 5744.1 rounded to the nearest tenth.

If the measure of angle 2 is 92 degrees and the measure of angle 4 is (one-half x) degrees, what is the value of x?
zavuch27 [327]

Answer: x = 184°

Step-by-step explanation: As we can see in the figure below, angles 2 and 4 are <u>Vertical</u> <u>Angles</u>, i.e., they are angles opposite each other when two lines cross. Vertical angles are always congruent.

Then,

m∠2 = m∠4

92=x.(\frac{1}{2})

92=\frac{x}{2}

Value of x is

x=92(2)

x = 184

The value of x is 184°.

Ahat [919]

Answer: $22.68

Step-by-step explanation:

17.50 times 0.08 = 1.40

17.50 + 1.40 = 18.90

Now the tip:

18.90 times .2 = 3.78

18.90 + 3.78 = 22.68
