Discussion:

Solve

x^2 -2x = x    =>

x^2 - 2x - x = 0   =>            (subtract x from both sides)

x^2 - 3x = 0      =>

x(x-3) = 0   =>                           (factor "x" from each term)

 x = 0 or x = 3
