Well it was mostly due to Henry Fords influence due to his new and innovative T-car which was cheap to make and cheap to get allowing nearly everyone in America get a car thus the auto industry sky rocketed helping people who had troubles with out cars to be able to use them regularly and helped them advance with new uses.
