Around 1863, the Union States were looking for ideas about what to do after with Confederate States after they have lost in the Civil War. Lincoln proposed that 10% of the white men from Confederate States had to permanently recognize the freedom of the slaves. However, the Congress opted for the Wade-Davis Bill in 1864, which mentioned at least 50% of the white men had to recognize the freedom of the former slaves and grant them the right to vote. Lincoln did not sign this Bill, and that's why he "pocket veto" it.

Thus, the right answer is option d, the bill required a 50-percent oath of loyalty from citizens in a reconstructed state.

Which statement is an example of direct democracy? A) People elect a Senator to the U.S. Congress. B) The town council approves
MatroZZZ [7]

The correct answer is D.

Direct democracy is exercised when voters, instead of electing political representatives that would govern and conduct policymaking on their behalf, are directly involved and can choose to support those policies that they consider to be more appropiate. Option D is the only situation in which the policy choice is directly made by citizens.

Options A, B or C cannot be correct because in all of them the decision-making is performed by a body or an institution constituted by representatives that have been elected by citizens: the Congress, the town hall or the President.

Nowadays, most democracies in the world are representative democracies were citizens whose representatives through suffrage, in opposition to direct democracies.

America's view in the Vietnam was fear. Fear drove them to participate in the war. Why fear? They were afraid Vietnam would become communist because if they became communist they would support or have the support from the Soviets. If this were to happen Vietnam could've became a missile launching spot for the soviets if America wouldn't have participated.

It's my best explanation from what I remember and from what I think. Hope it's helpful to you.

What were the advantages and limitations of the Twenty-fourth Amendment for advancing the civil rights movement?
Elza [17]

The 24th amendment was important to the Civil Rights Movement as it ended mandatory poll taxes that prevented many African Americans. Poll taxes, combined with grandfather clauses and intimidation, effectively prevented African Americans from having any sort of political power, especially in the South. When the 24th amendment passed, five southern states, Virginia, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi still had poll taxes. Most Southern states, at one time or another had poll taxes and in severe cases, had cumulative poll taxes that required the voter to pay taxes not just from that year, but also previous years they had not voted.
