To solve a linear equation, you graph it and see where the graph intercepts the x-axis.  You can either graph it on a calculator or you can set y to 0 and solve for x!

In order to solve for 2 unknowns in an equation, you need 2 equations.

A) 2X + 3Y = 12<span>B) 3X - 4Y =   1</span>For example, you couldn't solve for "X" and "Y" unless you had equation A AND equation B

If A = {x | x is an even integer}, B = {5, 6, 7, 8}, list the elements of the set A U B
ahrayia [7]
First of all, what is an integer?

Integers are numbers such as -7, -4, 0, 5, 16... etc...

This means that even integers are numbers such as:

-4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10... etc...

Which means that:

AUB={..., -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, ...}

This is because:

The union "<span>U</span>" of two sets must contain all the numbers from both sets, providing they aren't duplicated.

Find the absolute maximum value for the function f(x) = x^2 − 4, on the interval [–3, 0) U (0, 2].
Andreyy89

Answer:

5

Step-by-step explanation:

The function y=x^2 -4 is

  • decreasing for all x\in [-3,0);
  • is increasing for all x\in (0,2]

(see attached diagram for details).

The maximum value of the function is at endpoints -3 or 2. find y(-3) and y(2):

y(-3)=(-3)^2-4=9-4=5\\ \\y(2)=4^2-4=0

So, the maximum value is 5.
