I am guessing this is multiple choice, if not, I believe the answer would be Imperialism. The definition of Imperialism means: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Though the United States did not use military force directly against those islands, we got that land fighting with the Spanish (which is using military force.)

So in short, the answer is Imperialism.

The United States' acquisition of the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii are all examples Imperialism.

Further Explanations:

Imperialism explains the strategy of extending the realm's rule over overseas nations either by dogmatic alliance or military alliance. It aimed only at nations' territorial expansion. The strategy was a prevalent conquest concept extensively adopted by many nations as per the history. Imperialism means annexation either it is “New Imperialism” or “Old Imperialism”. In present days it is outlawed as per the International law and is considered as the international propaganda to criticize other nations' foreign policy.

United States' attainment of the Puerto Rico, Philippines, and Hawaii are all cases of Imperialism. United States had always aimed at extending its political and cultural extent to the nations nearby. Depending upon the situation it included them either by Military conquest or Gunboat democracy. United nation also preferred subsidization and unequal treaties and policies to continue its imperialism. United Sates never accepted that its policies are part of Imperialism, though it was also blamed for its neocolonialism policy or modern form of hegemony.

Write a one paragraph editorial that rejects imperialism in China. Consider the claims made in your first editorial supporting i
algol [13]

The Chinese empire has been subject to unfair unilateral treatment for centuries. As foreign powers such as the Portuguese and the British sought to get their hands on this country's riches. This can be seen during the Opium Wars, which led to the colonization of the ports of Macao and Hong Kong, by the Portuguese and British respectively.

The military power exercised over China by foreign powers was replaced by the economic power of this same nations in the form of foreign investment that comes to China and sets up manufacturing sites that set unideal working conditions for Chinese locals at the expense of the enrichment of these businesses.
