First of all, the level of his language and structure is far superior to other writers; his use of iambic pentameter-varied with other meters to show class or character-is usually textbook. He used common themes and didn't make the audience rely on previous knowledge of history or events or people, which made his plays reach a wider audience and it's why they still are widely read and performed today.
