I think punishment for a crime is the best thing to do because other wise how are they gonna learn their mistake, letting them off with nothing wont make their mistakes any better

Punishments are necessary because nobody would respect any law if there were no consequences. At the same time, punishment must not be the only reason for Criminal Law. Criminal Law must apply punishment and at the same time avoid people from committing any crimes by education. Crime reduction is a complex matter but punishment has been known to be a bad stimulation to reduce crime, instead, education has been far more effective.
