Which sentence contains an unnecessary hyphen? A) francis used one-third cup of sugar to sweeten the beverage. b) jaylen, like m
valentinak56 [21]

The sentence that contains an unnecessary hyphen is option B) “jaylen, like most teens, did not want to clean-up his bedroom.” In this case, a hyphen should not be use with phrasal verbs such as “clean up”.

Hyphens are commonly used to link words, especially in compound word, with prefixes and word breaks. In option A, we find an example of compound adjective (one-third cup), in option D we find example of prefixes as in “re-sign” and in option C we find an example of word break as in “re-covered”.

So the only sentence that contains an unnecessary hyphen is option B.

In the novel Great Expectations, Pip aspires to rise to the social status of a gentleman. Along the way, he hurts those who love
finlep [7]

Answer:

ambition

Explanation:

The "Great Expectations" is a famous novel by Charles Dickens, an English writer. The story of the novel centers on Philip Pirrip or "Pip."<u> </u><u>He was a loving orphan boy who became an ambitious man. </u>He wanted to become a gentleman (a higher social status). Thus, along the way, he unintentionally hurt those whom he loved. In the end of the story, he realized the true value of having real friends and family. In this way, the story was able to provide guidance on how Pip's ambition turned out in the end and how it helped him.

On a similar note, Julius Caesar<u> was also an ambitious person. </u>He wanted power all to himself. This ambition of his led to his death when a group of senators conspired to kill him, thus leading to his downfall.

So, both of these stories center on the "theme of ambition."
