The dominant theme of any Shakespearean comedy are romance and love.
The lovers in the comedy are usually separated by distance and circumstances and they have to overcome obstacles to be reunited at the end. There is always a conflict between values of reason and control and values like freedom and lust.
Most comedies end in a marriage, which is an achievement in happiness and the promise of continued happiness.
Some of the other common elements of Shakespearean comedy are: misconception between lovers, deceptions of characters ( women disguised as young men ), greater emphasis on situations rather than characters.
