I think like every other nation or people <span>It reminds them of events from their past.

Judaism is the most ancient monotheistic religion, and the historical backdrop of Judaism can't be isolated from the historical backdrop of the Jewish individuals.  The second and prime agreement or covenant was made 450 years after the fact when Moses drove the Jews out of subjugation in Egypt  back to the terrains of Canaan.
