A common skin disorder, rosacea typically affects facial skin causing redness of the cheeks four head, nose and chin. In addition, noses of those affected tend to look more swollen or bulb-like in appear.

It may be caused by disorders of the immune system, neuro-vascular system and made worse, by an infection by microscopic mites in the skin; associations have made between rosacea and elevated risk of intestinal and cardiovascular diseases (coronary artery disease- cholesterol associated ) along with cancer.

Rosacea is more likely to affect persons with fair skin, who blush easily and occurs most frequently in woman, with men making up most of the acute cases. Signs of rosacea include:

  • flushing a form of facial redness that comes and goes
  • persistent redness resembling sunburn acne-like pimples and bumps without the presence of blackheads
  • very prominent blood vessels, which have higher visibility under the skin

Rosacea can be aggravated by drinking alcohol, hot foods and drinks spicy foods, anxiety and stress.
