Hey there!

The two countries that share the island of Hispaniola are Hati and The Dominican Republic. Originally, the Republic was not free from Hati, but when they gained their independence in 1697, the island was forced to split into two separate countries.

Nowadays, both countries are vastly different. The Dominican is a very frequently visited tourist destination by many from all over the world -- every year. On the other hand, Hati is extremely poor. There are not many roads, and a lot of people are homeless. Additionally, it's probably still recovering a little having had a major earthquake about 8 years ago.
