Who was Mr.Gilman? what special concession did he confer on helen for the examination

Mr. Gilman was the principal of Cambridge School for the young ladies. It was because of him that Helen was interested in History and Literature. Mr. Gilman had a special feeling towards Helen and when she was sitting for the exams he read the papers using manual alphabet and then he read Helen's papers in order to give her the opportunity to correct the mistakes.
